Is this a true festae?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is the best festae ID thread ever. If something looks like a FH then it sure as hell can't be a festae no matter what size. Once again the FH comes in to trash the hobby with false labeling

That's why I asked before I bought it, not knowing what a small festae looked like, and that fish looking like a washed out flower horn made me ask, and I am glad I did because it would have been a $70 washed out flower horn

Damn 70 is alot for a festae . When I bought those mayans I paid 15 for all 4. I know fhs are expensive some times in petsmart near me they 30 for one the same size as the pic you posted.

Festae has a black dot on his tail that starts from the top to the middle.
If the dot is from the top to the bottom of the tail, it is not Festae, it is Urophthalmus (Mayan).

If the Festae is cheap, look carefully if it is not "fake"- most of the time Mayan is a lot cheaper.

Well at least you know the difference now. You should search the many threads on Festae ID that are available on this site. Read through them and familiarize yourself with Festae so you are more confident when it comes time to purchase some. Like others have said, Festae are more commonly confused with Mayans than anything else. Once you see and keep enough Festae, identifying them becomes quite easy.
