Is this a true synspila or a cross?

Hybrid. Synspilum don't have the black down the middle of the body like that.

In synspilum the dark coloration has a curve and tends to follow the belly, terminating well before the gill plate.

Here's a pure female I used to own.

yeaaaah! That's right huh?

Well now I see that, I have to agree that it is a hybrid.. Mostly likely a zz fh crossed.. Looks real nice.

agreed..nice looking fish but it is a hybrid. The fish in my avatar is a pure synspilum I used to have a while back. it was probably 4-5" and came from Rapps. :)

hi guys im new here but i have 6 of these at the minute and no two have the same markings, patterns etc.fantastic fish to have.mine have grown up from a group of 20 1" size the 6 i now have are the strongest.
the fish here may have genes from veija and quetzal synspilium???

The fish in my avatar is pure and he's 11" long. Thats correct about the line across the body. It should curve. The straight line is more like a melenarus. but it still looks hybrid.

I would have to agree as well that it's not pure Synspilus. I saw the coloration on the back half of the fish and the lack of the blue coloration... the first thing that came to mind was Bifasciatum...that extended yellow/orange into the front of the body. But it lacks the tell tale second blotch (the "BI" in Bifasciatum)

Here's a male Synspilus
