Is this a True texas cichlid or a carpintis? (Pic heavy thread)

Ah, I thought that was one reason why people went with cyano.

Carps don't necessary need wormings to be carps. They're just found in some carp and not in others.

More commonly, it'd be found on carps from Escondido and Vontehillo.

Carps from Lahilla, Chairel and the likes are less likely to have wormings.

Though yeah, in general some do, some don't. If you look at the last cyano pic in the link there, you can see that the dots are actually very, very fine and small, a lot less irregular than the ones in OP's pic.

I felt they could have been carpintis to which is why I talked to the shop owner. He said they are true Texas that the pearling would be much larger which is why I posted so many pictures. They are a breeding pair and either way I shall enjoy them.

Yea I was also thinking that location may have somthing to do with it. Thats also why I thought maybe a mix cause lfs will get them in and put both species in the same tank. The spot coloring was also throwing me off cause cyanos are not as blue. Ops fish has good blue. Just didnt think spots were big enough for carp. But im no texas expert. It also dont help that for some reason when i try to view the big pics the app force closes so i can only see small pics.

To OP both species are great and yours look good reguardless. Hope you enjoy them i know i really liked my pair. Give us an update when you get them. P.S. they breed like bunnies so be ready.

They scream Texas + to me. I own Texas, Escondido, & Vontehillo, though you think it could be a different Carp, I disagree. Though the head does look shaped funny which causes me to think that something else may be in there.

But again, buying from a LFS and not knowing true origin, this badgering back and forth between Texas and Carp, will never stop. Just enjoy them.

Id say theyre a hybrid of both. The pearl sizes seem like theyre in between a carpintis and cyano. All the cyano I've seen have very small pearls, almost dot like vs the carpintis that have very large ones.
