This was the only one out of the bunch with white on the fins instead of the usual bright orange. I read online about white saums being somewhat rare and unique. Did I get lucky finding him?

Looks like a young Andinoacara stalsbergi.

I have one too that I got a few weeks ago. They were wild caught and mixed with gold saums He's chunking up nicely. Definately more agressive than the gold saums I've had previously.

I would say they are rare when compared to a standard gold saum green terror, but not very uncommon. There are several breeders in the states and their presence over the last 5 years or so has increased dramatically. Where did you pick it up and for how much?

This kind of makes me up. I had a gt that looked exactly the same and thought it was a true green terror but was told it wasn't so I got rid of it.

It most likely a mix of the two and she's sibling with the bunch u got her from. Some can have half white and gold on the tail edges too. Some are full bright red. And some are solid white. Those are pretty solid traits.

The lighter orange I assume are mix of the two but not a way to be sure.. But if you see half white and orange it's a mix I assume

Your's can have white now but may get orange in it later.

But to me they are the same kind and I see the mixed of two colors = nice different variant

No. There are white saum breeders I believe. They are challenging to breed, so there are still quite a few wild caught on the market unlike the gold saums that you can find everywhere. And for $4.99, you definitely got lucky. Nice pick up. I personally have never heard of the white turning orange, but hopefully it doesn't do that if this is true.
