I agree that it looks like the comet is a young male and the fantail is a female.
yeah, by the way they eating, the comet could be a male and the fantail is a female. You can see that the comet eat then play then come back and eat while the fantail just keep eating even when the comet is pushing it !

I know what you mean, as I said I've had them for a little over a week and most of that week has been spent just watching them lol....

and that little fantail never stops eating lol, I'm really going to have to watch how much food I give them...so if the comet is a male and the fantail is a female, will they breed ? do different types of goldfish breed together.....?

Again, its not a great idea to keep short and long bodied goldfish together, at least ive found, as the comet can get frisky and agressive as yours is. just my advice...
well, I had them both in the same tank before, there was no problem! just let them live together for a bit, if something come up it still not late to take care of it because ... well, they are goldfish, not cichlid!

I agree Redearsunfish, I'm watching them closely, so far as I can tell it only happens at feeding time. I have just gotten hold of 50 litre tank compared to the 20 litre tank. I'm not sure but I think that will hold 3 goldfish comfortable. If the comet continues to annoy the fantail, I will take the fantail out and organise a tank for my boys bedroom that will hold two fantails comfortably. (I would prefer to have two fish together rather than one it's own).

Thanks for your advice, very much appreciated.

What size do you consider small? Are they like under 2"?

They are roughly around that size I think Pandamania and I've had them for just a little over a week now. This is the first time I've kept fish of any sort (didn't even have them as a child lol, sad I know !) so it's all a learning curve for me at the moment.
