Is this an Asian Tiger Lobster?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
not sure, but its pretty awesome!

Common names have little meaning. You can call it what you want.

There is no difference between calling them yabbies, crayfish, crawfish, lobsters or long crabs.

Some species of crayfish are illegal is some states, that is true, but those species are demarcated by Latin name, not by what you chose to call them that day. They are illegal as they are invasive to some areas and are outcompeting the native crays. Most of the introduced species are either pet releases or releases from educational facilities. It is really common for educational suppliers to stock odd ball crayfish that end up in second grade classrooms and then released to a creek in June when school is out.

Sure ill post up some photos later on today of the views you want to see.

thank you, might be a good reason to measure him too, some pics of him/her next a tape measure, then in a couple months do it again. thats the coolest things about Crays they can be handled readily and easily with care.

tiger lobster...aka yabbie....cherax quad-something. but as far as the lobster/ crayfish debate goes...... crayfish are illegal to sell as pets in some states,but....lobsters can be. scientific i think not, just skirting around the law...lol

If you mean Cherax quadricarinatus, that's the red claw crayfish which doesn't resemble the asian tiger lobster (Cherax peknyi) at all in coloration or adult size.

crawfish and crayfish are the same thing with different names but that doesnt matter cause the thread is asking if this is a asian tiger lobster and yes it is i can tell by the color and size..but still anyways good luck with him or her!

He looks great but we need more pics. Cool little bugger.
