Is This An "Odd Ball" Clown Loach?

Nice oddball, how do you keep these alive when they're younger (around 1-2") ? I bought 5 once and they all died within a couple days, water was fine and tank was cleaned weekly...at the store they were swimming like mad, then when I got them home and put them in a 10g (since they were small), they all caught ich and died. 
Do you think it was because I didn't acclimate them? Just floated them in the bag and released

Not as snub as the one you have, he looks like he hauled off and ran into the wall or something. What's that darkness under his eye? Is that black stripe or is it red like it's irritated?
Clown Knife, the majority of my cl's got ich on the way home. How bad did it get before they died? Were they paper think with blacked out eyes? Around where I'm at the cl's always look about 2 days from death, which is why I refer to mine as rescues. Most likely it was a combo of things, but that's just an assumption on my part.
