& don't make the same mistake I did and get play sand...you have to wash it many times...I had to wash three 50 pound bags in three 5 gallon buckets about 70 times dumping the water down a drain and filling it up and repeating...it was horrible...and it still made/makes my water cloudy. I would instead suggest you get Pool Filter Sand/Silica Sand. You won't have to wash it as much and it isn't no where near as dirty. It also looks much better in your aquarium in my opinion. Once you add the sand to your tank, it generally takes a couple days to clear up. So don't worry about that.
& once you switch to sand, you'll love how easier it is to clean your tank and all their food stays on top and gets eaten...no having to worry about it falling underneath the rocks. You might find you'll have to clean your tank more often though as their waste is more noticeable. When you clean the waste off the sand, have your siphon an inch or so above the sand bed...not in it, otherwise you'll suck up sand too
