Is this Dovii too young to sex ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:ROFL:Yeh i know... It wont be purely an impulse buy, it's something i have been looking to get for a long while, and i have a 180 on the way that has nothing to go into it yet ;)

Good job...set up the 180...take your time. dovi are quite common now. actually i"m not to sure about the uk. if they aren't as common as they are here in the U.S. then grab it. if they are take your time and get one where you could get a glimpse of its parents. since this is something you have been planning for, for some time. invest in a fish with a proven linage (great looking parents) good luck.

I haven't seen too many here in the UK, this is the only one that i have seen local to me. I do know somewhere that has about a dozen, but they are the other end of the country, they will deliver, but i just figured buying something that i have seen and "looks" healthy would be a better option than having anything sent.

It's not going to make any difference if it is female anyway

as a fellow uk based member i know these can be a bit of a rarity here but if your going to buy a dovii and dedicate your time and money to it i would go with a better specimen, there some great uk based online vendors where you will get a great healthy fish and probably f1 or at least known lineage for roughly the same money your going to buy that from your lfs. best of luck whatever your choice

Cheers,

As said i haven't seen many at all here, especially at this size. I have seen a few members pictures and the change in theirs from this size to adult is unbelievable. So what exactly is wrong with this one that i should or shouldn't be looking for in others ?

Thanks

it has very little spangling and its general form isn't impressive...if you like it go for it, but when you see a dovii you are supposed to be somewhat impressed...just my take on it. I dont even like them...except for the massive male specimens that are purple and green, i have to admit they are impressive

Sorry, i have only just seen your reply,

Thanks, and Nice looking Dovii !!

Thats a female,

Ill post a pic of a small F1 Honduran blue dovii we have thats a little smaller
but you can already see a huge difference. Hes definitely a male. 3.5''View attachment 711842
