I have a 55G with the following:
- External Cannister Tetratec EX1200 (1200litres per hour)(Mech)
- External Cannister Eheim 2222 (750litres per hour)(Bio)
- Internal Filter: Eheim Ecco (750 litres per hour)(Mech)
- Tetratec Airpump with 2 large airstones to keep the water circulating
I only do waterchanges of 50% once a week...
I have the following fish stock in there (approx sizes):
CK knifefish 9"
3X Oscars 8"
1X Fire-eel 10"
1X Royal Plec 5"
3X Pimelodius Pictus Cats 2"
1X Leopard Synodontis 6"
Also I feed them loads!!! hehe... but the CK is constantly hungry!
I would suggest you get as much as you can... as it is really nice to only have to do waterchanges of a couple of buckets once a week... nothing worse than having to do it after a long days work.
Also, I find that depending on the waterflow in the tank I can get a cleaner tank. I use the airstones and the spraybars to point all the debris to the intakes of the large cannister. If I get the waterflow wrong the tank gets a bit dirty quite quickly.
Aah and another thing, they are dead quiet!... only thing that makes a noise is the airstones but I keep those running to pump fresh air into the hood (I have this sealed tight as fire eels like to go on walkabouts at night)
