Is this ICH?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks!

Because they are still in my main tank would it not be better to treat the entire tank in case it has already spread to other tank mates but just not visable yet?

Also, just an extra note...

No new fish have been introduced to the tank in months.

The affected fish are the most recent addition but they have been there now for a few months.

I have had water issues recently, I had about 2-3 weeks where I was not able to do any water changes.

I initially thought this was an ICK break out so I did a medium water change on Tuesday (about 40%), cleaned out the enitre tank inside, cleaned out both filters, and have done 4 doses of salt treatment.

any fungus med you like.
Or Pimafix!
I know some think it's weak, but I once spent on a grip of medicine when my fish was badly ill and none worked. Then my friend had the same problem and he told me Pimafix. I got Pimafix and it saved my fish. My fish was being ate up by fungus and even the expensive meds didnt even work.

NBK, please try touching those white tufts gently. Do they feel soft and fuzzy? Hard and globose? Do they peel off easily?

Assuming these peel off easily, then we may be dealing with fungal infection. What you have to do here is grab some Q-tips and apply iodine solution on the white tufts. Please do not risk contact of iodine solution near the eye and gill areas. Dose stresscoat containing aloe vera to help with the slime coating and add 0.3% solution of salt. I believe you may have already done so anyway after you mistakenly suspected it as ich.

The other possibility is bacterial infection. How does the poop look currently? If thin and white, then bacterial infection is prevailing. What you can do here is use kanamycin. Much more effective if pH is high. Tetracycline if your pH is on the acidic side.

Viral infections such as lymphocystis are much more difficult to treat and this is a case by case basis. We'll go with the above options for now to be sure of what we are dealing with.

That is not tumor by the way. Tumors do not appear like that. It will take an ulcerated look before you suspect tumor is evident and even if the tumor happened internally, a lump in any part of the body would appear unusually thus the symmetry of the fish when watched from the top angle look rather unusually off.

Perhaps but alot of the meds wreck havock upon the biological filtration. If your other fish seem resilant it might be easier for you to keep the sick ones seperated for the treatment (and the meds needed to treat a smaller tank is less expensive) Are they doing any differently today? I hope they bounce back quickly.

I have started treatment with esha 2000....

so, will keep all posted on the outcome...

I would isolate them in a hospital tank and medicate them and possibly medicate the main tank once or twice just to make sure your healthy fish in there don't catch it.
