check your state regulations, it will let you know if its illegal, some fish have minimum sizes that you can take and others do not. I believe up top of this forum there is a link to different state regs.

As stated above. The law doesn't have to specifically address fry. If catching a sport game fish for aquaria, the size restrictions have to be satisfied as to minimum length/weight along with the state allowing the legal-size sport fish to be retained and transported alive. Alot of states also restrict gamefish to types of catching methods (eg: normal tackle, trot lines, traps, dipnetting etc.)
Read the fishing laws available anywhere licenses are sold.

Also remember that some states have number limits, and when you go fishing, you have to count the ones at home in the tank. Kinda silly, but that's the facts.

Ah, this reminds me of my first post... I kinda got chewed out. But it's all good. Personally I think it's silly that I can go catch LMB and EAT them. But I can't keep them as pets...:screwy::confused:

Mostly from what Ive read on DNR sites its illegal to collect things under certain sizes like fry. People still do it cause whos gonna know? but Ive seen fines up to and above $500 if caught....

Do I get fine $500 and keep the fish? :D Or do they take it? :P

In general, you can keep any game fish as a pet. It just has to meet the criteria of keeping it. LMB usually have a minimum size in order to keep them, so if you are in possession of an undersized fish, you could be cited for it. Also, netting is usually not a legal method of taking them also.

Sorry to get off topic. You didn't happen to read my post did you. Yeah I looked at my regulations site I couldn't find anything... So I decided to stay away from natives for the most part but btw what is the minimum size for a LMB? And if you look at my signature it clearly says I do not own a LMB :D

Nvm. From what I am reading I have a 5 bag limit and "only one of which may be 22 inches or longer in total length." So I'm pretty lucky. Also, from what I'm reading please correct me if I'm wrong, I can catch a LMB with a cast-net as long as the net mesh is no bigger than 1 inch??? I'm kinda confused about that BUT I CAN catch LMB smaller as long as they aren't bigger than 22 inches. I'm a lucky turd.
