is this male johanni holding?

i noticed the bulge below his mouth and he is not eating now... he'll go near food but not eat any... or is this a female? i was under impression females were yellow.

Female johanni's are yellow but a lot of places sell Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos (maingano) as johanni, http://cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=756, and with that species males and females look the same. I would guess that yours is a holding female Maingano.

Thats up to you. Raise them if you want, just don't distribute them since they are hybrids.

Female Melanochromis species will take on male colouration.

We have a group of wild caught auratus from chipoke in the shop 5 females to 1 male i think, and one of the female looks just like a coloured down male. But it has had a mouth full of young.

Is just probably a female

Even thought they take on male color, I would doubt this is the case with the pictured female. Seems that it is not a johanni.

yep it sure is. it should be light blue and black but not yellow.
