Tsn when grown are not cute; or at least mom type of cute; ESP if he end up eating your parrot;)

Also keeping a parrot happy financially is VERY different from keeping a TSN happy via a pond.

there kept in separate tanks. and yes but what my mom likes is the fact that my parrot eats out of my hand. i bet i could train a tsn to do that, also she really over the uniqueness of them. one of her other favorite fish is my 10" channel catfish(i have an outdoor pond he is going in) and he's not even albino.

I've got a friend with limited space so he gets fish when they're tiny, grows them for a couple years (or months depending on the fish) and then trades them with an lfs for store credit. If you've got a good one, you should talk to them.

If you really want one, I say go for it. It's part of the hobby of fish keeping. You will learn and enjoy the experience. When it gets to a size that is not appropriate for your tank, that when the good members on here or elsewhere with a larger tank will take it in. I would put a small rehoming fee on it to prevent hoarders from taking because it was free. The easiest way is to keep it to a size that someone still want it and trade it in to the lfs. I would think 12" for a tsn would be good. Someone with a larger tank will still want it to add to their existing stock. Good Luck.

Ok thanks. I think I will. I'll probably sell it between 12"-15". I'll start the sale closer to 12" do if no one wants it at the moment then I have a little lean time

You will still want a spacious tank, length wise. TSN is more nervous than other large cats. In small tanks(75 gallon or below), even a 8 to 12 inch fish will spook very easily.

I had a TSN for about 4 months... he was fun but grew to 12" in that time.. I ended up tradeing him in at the LFS. I see no issues in doing this as long as your prepared to let go/rehome it. we where planning on keeping our TSN... and as some already said.. life happens. Knowing you can not house the fish long term, at least not atm. Just start looking fro a long term home now... they are hard to find.

ok thanks. my lfs has them at 1.5" so i'd think id be able to keep him a little longer. id start trying to find him a home at 8"

It's not responsible. I'm sorry. The basic premise of my opinion is that **** happens. You never know what you are going to encounter in the future, and that means that you might not have the ability to rehome the fish until far after it should have been rehomed.

I would never get a fish I couldnt keep for all its life. Ive passed up so many RTC / PACU and TSN in my time but I cant house them fully grown so I stay away

Lots of people on here Have "growouts" that they buy to grow out and get rid of later. What this guy is asking is basically the same thing that so many practice here.
