just because this thread caused some controversy within itself ill do a little update. The fish was 2" when i bought him and died when it hit 4". I woke up one mourning and the tank looked fine but when i got back from school it looked like heck. there was this white stuff(fungus i believe) that was clogging the tank bad and got caught in the gills of this little guy. I found out that it had built up in the filter completely undetected and it just unleashed while i was at school. anyways i learned a lesson and i don't plan on buying any more fish that i don't have a tank for.

I think all of us on here have done it at least once. You see an awesome fish, buy it without really even considering what to do with it down the road, and months later you're stuck with a problem. I'll be the first to admit I've done it once or twice... Impulse buys are the most dangerous things in this hobby IMO.
You, on the other hand, know what it is that you're getting into. So I don't believe that "excuse" should apply to you.
If you know that there is no way you yourself can house it long-term, then don't do it.
That being said, I've raised a TSN myself, and can honestly tell you that you'll get a good year out of it in a 75, depending on how big it is when you get it, how much you feed it, and what kind of fish are in the tank with it. One year is plenty of time to come up with a larger tank. So, if you make it your life mission to find a bigger tank the day you buy that fish, and you aren't just BSing yourself about it, then by all means go for it. But if there's even a bit of doubt in the back of your head, then don't do it.
That's just my input though.

Fish is dead already. Old post :)

And speaking of if I can pull of a B in my American studies class I'm getting a 265 gallon tank. I know that's still small for a TSN but it would hold it for another year or two if I still had it. I know I messed up big time but I have made two impulse buys which turned out bad(the TSN and a pacu, neither of which are with me). But unlike some ill admit to my mistakes and admit that I messed up. It's a been a learning experience for me and that's all I can say.
