You take me around Iquitos, and Ill get you whatever supplements you want for your tank. I have some business down there, and the people that I need to contact dont like answering their phones.

That being said, the brown algae will usually go away all by itself when it runs out of silicates. You get silicates from new sand/rocks in your tank. Or from not washing either of the two well enough when first introduced.

that's awesome, do you order fish from Iquitos?? I've heard of a couple exporters there, Neotropical Fauna I think is the best known. But yeah, I know what you mean with them not answering calls and stuff like that...awesome if you ever do come to Peru, id be more than happy to help you out with whatever, I have a feeling Ill be doing lots of stuff in Iquitos soon as im starting a masters in aquaculture next week and lots of projects are going on up there

concerning the silicates I'm guessing I just didnt wash the sand out well enough, as I got it from a beach thats not too far from here and didnt want to kill off any good bacteria or micro critters

PLEASE dont use "purple up"
unles you are going fish only..
I say, " if you don't test for it, don't add it"

Yeah I've heard that it doesn't work and most people just say time is key not a large dose of calcium

well for now I'm only planning on FOWLR, although I did get some hitchhiker aiptasia, but I keep it under control as to not get too much of it....coral and other stuff like that is still out of my league, I wanna at least have my fish doing well for minimum a year before starting on other more complicated projects

I have fish problems in Iquitios...thats all Im saying. :D Keep in touch, if you start working there in a couple years, I might be able to offer you a job.

If you dont have any invert eating fish yet, you could add some peppermint shrimp. They will take care of your aptasia in about a week.

Sounds good, I'll definitely always be around here.

So far I haven't seen peppermint shrimp around here, hopefully one of the fish stores will bring some on their next order....concerning the diatoms, would snails help out with that, I'm pretty sure I've seen cerith snails

Ok, so I know it's been a while since I posted anything on this. I figured out that the problem I'm having is that the water I use to top off contains silicates, so the problem just doesn't seem to go away. I looked into to getting a Reverse Osmosis Water Filter, but the only one they sell here is like $500. So I wanted to know if any of you guys know which Reverse Osmosis System would be good to get.
I'm basically looking for one that is maximum 50 GPD, and isn't insanely expensive. Also the smaller the better, as someone will be bringing it to Peru for me. Any idea on which one would be best? I have looked at the Coralife Pure Flo II 2 canister system. Any help would be appreciated.
