is this ok to feed gars.

Yeah feeders (goldfish in particularly) are pretty nasty. I was out of the hobby for awhile and one thing I noticed since getting back in is the generally crappy condition of feeder fish at most LFS I go into. I mean, feeder goldfish were never pristinely healthy but the stuff I see in feeder tanks now...sunken bellies, half dead, just really sickly-looking in general.
I wonder if people whose fish flat refuse to take anything but live feeders wouldn't be better off collecting minnows or buying baitfish if they have a decent bait & tackle shop nearby. Of course wild fish can transmit parasites and other nasties but so can feeder goldfish...saltwater baitfish like chubs or whatever might be an option too.

i fed him the shrimp raw. i have tried to get him to eat it again but he wont. he always runs frrom my hand just like my Florida/Spotted. oh yea my oscars and senegal eats the shrimp to.
yea i have noticed. i always throw alot of feeders at the same time so they scatter and that way all the fish get food.
He looked at it and sniffed it last night...but he still has a couple feeders. Im not gonna buy any more now. Over a half pound of peeled raw shrimp for under four bucks...should last about 2 weeks plus! That will be way cheaper than feeders...and healthier.
