Gar i've never seen them over here in the uk . What are they like as a fish ? do they have wide mouths? what do they eat ? i'm asuming with there incredibly streamline body there predatory fish ?

they're predators, yes. Native to N. America. there's like 5-6 different species, that get from 2 feet to 10 feet long. most are pretty docile towards other tankmates, are good for large tankmate communities. pretty common.
