Is this plant a good plant?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It looks like Vallisneria. In the right conditions it can overtake your entire tank, throwing out lots of "runners" and pushing up new growth. Ideally you need to take the weight off the bottom and plant it in the substrate. Those white spaghetti like structures nearby look to be the roots.

Just as an aside. You seem to be purchasing "things" for your tank lately, and then asking questions afterwards!! The other day it was shellfish which you bought but didn't have a clue about.

We always stress on the forum the importance of research before committing to something which may be wholly unsuitable for your tank.

Is this just in terms of fish keeping?

Research is key in this hobby if you want to avoid a lot of potential hassle. We don't always do it, myself included. Sometimes you get away with it, sometimes you regret it.

In this case I believe the OP is quite young which, imo, is ample reason to get them on the right track as regards putting a little thought into something before pulling the trigger.

Looks like Val. Great plant. Grows fast. Good light and root tabs are needed. Might melt but should recover quickly.

The OP is one of many posters who seem to do that; buy first and ask questions later. I agree that this isn't the way living creatures should be purchase or selected, especially when it's so easy to pull your phone out of your pocket and access the universe of info it provides. Much better than killing critters that you should never have brought home. Those freshwater clams are a perfect example

But, honestly, when it comes to plants...even though they are living things...I don't hesitate to grab a bit of this or a bit of that if it looks interesting. If it lives (as unlikely as that may be, in my case)...great. If it dies...meh, it's a plant.

If it dies...meh, it's a plant.

Well, being a loving doting plant dad to many terrestrials, that comment is like me saying to you, "I'm gonna get a dog John, but if it dies, meh, it's only a dog!" Lol.

Like you said though, it doesn't matter what you are buying, rare, common, cheap, expensive etc etc, it doesn't hurt in this day and age to have a look on line, especially when it is so easy to do so.
