In the wild 90% of the midas' are barred. Only 10% are colored. In the hobby it's the other way around, as people tend to like the colored types better.

So if someone has a Barred midas then for sure they have a wild Midas?

Nice pick up, like someone else mentioned barred midas are less common than the other varieties and I also agree that they look better. When he gets big and thick he will look like a real brute like my avatar (but my avatar is a slightly different species from the same genus sp. chancho)

No but it will be closely related to the wild. I disagree with what modest man said. Fish that are cloesly related to the wild (f0 f1 f2) etc tend to have barred and a colored fry. By the time f2, f3 come around most of the babies have been captive so long none are barred and all of them are colored.

That doesn't make any sense at all. Being captive or not doesn't have anything to do with their genetic makeup, barred parents will throw barred offspring continually almost 100% of the time. If you kept crossing barred fish you'd end up with a F342342 that was still barred.

Being barred or not doesn't tell anything about how closely related the fish is to the wild at all.

Modest Man is right on this one.

From my experience Midas and RDs can fade even pass the 6" mark. Midas in my avatar still had most of his bars around the 8" and now that he's alittle over 10" he's still peeling/fading/morphing, the black colorings are slowly disappearing day by day:(

You can see hints of the bars on his body in picture.
