is this rock ok for mbuna?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That rock should do. Just clean it good with water and a new brush maybe and it will work. Anything you can make caves and hiding spots out of will work great for mbuna. A good rule of thumb(that I go by anyway) is one cave per fish at least.

you know.. You might want to consider some holey rock anyhow.
I bought a large piece at a pet store. It's probably about 8" long, and 4" high, 4" deep.. Lots of little holes. It was expensive at $40, but provides a place for the fry to hide. Over the years, the fry have replaced africans that have died off, so the rock has kind of paid for itself, considering most africans are about $8-12+ each at the petstore..

Of course, now I'm overrun with yellow labs and Metraclima Aura, but I plan to give some of those away.. Anyone here that wants any (Columbus, ohio), let me know..

Looks fine, nice smooth river rocks.I got a bunch in my tanks.Stacked up they mke great caves and hidey holes for the mbuna and fry.

nice....when you get them in your tank show us how they look.

yes it will work. i use river rock in my african tanks and love it.. it stacks well, looks good and the fish love it. i went to a local rockyard and got about 200 lbs for 26 bucks! i just powerwashed it and put it on eggcrate..

You are going to order rock and have it shipped? :screwy:

Just go to any landscape supply company and get a bunch. Probably run all of 25 cents per pound....

It is cheaper to have that Holey rock shipped than to out right by it from the LFS. Holey Rock is great for show tanks! If you just want cover for the fish than sure you can get other rock cheaper!

i wouldnt order rock online-the shipping would be killer. like someone else said, go to the phonebook and find a rockyard. you can get a few hundred lbs for less than 30 bucks! thats what i did..
