i wouldnt order rock online-the shipping would be killer. like someone else said, go to the phonebook and find a rockyard. you can get a few hundred lbs for less than 30 bucks! thats what i did..

Exactly. And NEVER buy rock from a peststore!?!? Only get it from a rockyard. I have been doing this for YEARS and never had a problem with it...Avoid stuff from say a rock garden at someone's house as it may have been sprayed with chemicals. But don't sweat it from a rock yard...

lol no im not a idiot, i was hoping this rock here was ok so i didnt have to order online!! screw that haha. thanks all i am going to get it now

yeah, river rock and boulder is completely safe, so is holy rock, tufa (or lava)-dont get anything that has metallic fleck to it, or has streaks of rust (iron-that will leach into your tank) or crumbles in your hand easily. if you doubt anything (and if you are getting river rock its safe) just use some vinegar on it and if it bubbles or fizzes throw it out.
just scrub the rock and throw it in (not on the bare glass though lol)

Caynon Flats will be perfect.

A great way of "cleaning" rock is to soak it in hot saline water for 24 hours. This kills most of the bacteria and is great in combination with blasting it with a hose or some sort of good physical scrubbing. I do this to all of the rock before I put it in my tank.
