Nitrate is the last part of the nitrogen cycle, so if there is no nitrate that means the tank is not cycled....ammonia or nitrite levels are likely high.
Bb converts ammonia to nitrite then nitrites to nitrates, nitrates ( n03 ) are much less toxic then ammonia and nitrites, and can easily be removed thru wc!
