I bought this stand from a friend, it is 36" x16"...but i decided to try and use it on a 75g, after asking a few people if it will hold...75g being 48"x18".

I did even toss some some plywood under, just so that it is sitting on something, front to back, but 100_1642.JPG100_1643.JPGas you can see, it is about 5-6" overlapping on the sides.

What do you guys, think? it is only up since last night and is ok. Is there anything i can do to secure it more, while still being up, not tearing down the tank.

i may, just for peace of mind, tear it down, and adjust the stand.

I've always been told that the tank shouldn't hang off the sides. Plus, that stand probably wasn't built to hold a quarter ton of water. (Quarter ton sounds more dramatic than 600 pounds :-p)

yeah i am just gonna leave it on the ground till i get around to making a new stand. i have to be extra careful living on a 2nd floor condo...

Unless you are building the stand now and it's going to be done today, I'd remove about 1/3 of the water in that tank instantly, before it removes itself on it's own.

You know, for almost nothing you can buy 4 cinder blocks and several 4-foot 2x4's and have the tank seated safely.

thanks for the input, guys. i just threw it on the floor, i'll get a replacement up, soonor or later, just not in the mood to empty and fill it again, right now

The stand can hold the weight, but I would worry about the tank. I have seen multiple people suspend their tanks off the sides like that, but I wouldn't trust it.

I could be wrong, but i dont see anything for the tank to sit on as in polystyrene. always best to put some under any tank, dont take much to crack it, even in a dry run on a stand. i would use minimum 1/4 inch thick under that.

On the stand, you can always add some 3x2 batten on the ends screwed direct to the stand than a bigger sheet of 3/4 ply on top, then you use the stand safely.
