Someone on here said by adding seachem it removes nitrates from your tap water???? Never heard of that isn't it just a condintioner like stress coat? Info would help i have well water with 60ppm on tap.

and i tried that rock, salt crap behind the filter thats suppose to help take nitrates out and thats bs.

I know its not true it can't be but he said he added drops to 20ppm tap water and it came back 0. No way

You rly think it removes nitrates though? I mean i tried plants in my tanks wc all the time but my tanks are at 60ppm no matter what because of the tap water and im not spending 100bucks on that thing that removes nitrates but needs new filters every week. So i just live with nitrates.

From Seachem's website:

Q: How does Prime make a difference in reducing Nitrates?

A: The detoxification of nitrite and nitrate by Prime (when used at elevated levels) is not well understood from a mechanistic standpoint. The most likely explanation is that the nitrite and nitrate is removed in a manner similar to the way ammonia is removed; i.e. it is bound and held in a inert state until such time that bacteria in the biological filter are able to take a hold of it, break it apart and use it. Two other possible scenarios are reduction to nitrogen (N2) gas or conversion into a benign organic nitrogen compound.
I wish we had some more "concrete" explanation, but the end result is the same, it does actually detoxify nitrite and nitrate. This was unexpected chemically and thus initially we were not even aware of this, however we received numerous reports from customers stating that when they overdosed with Prime they were able to reduce or eliminate the high death rates they experienced when their nitrite and nitrate levels were high. We have received enough reports to date to ensure that this is no fluke and is in fact a verifiable function of the product.

Seachem has a product to specifically remove nitrates and ammonia. But I don't lime putting chemicals in my water so i don't use it. Nitramax has a product that's just billions of live bacteria that feed off ammonia and stuff which I do use every water change and I get all 0's on my test strips

Just read the label! It does remove nitrates but if u need a chemical to do this ur lazy. Vac + water changes + non overfeeding/stocking= low nitrates

Good to know. Ya i don't like adding chemicals either. I only add stress coat to my water when doing wc. But i don't even know if thats needed with well water. I will try seachem i guess it can't hurt. Like i said all my tanks have high nitrates because of my tap water and i know long term its not good for your fish. I keep my tanks really CLEAN though. My fish poop its vacced.

It just sucks because i do wc all the time and keep my tanks clean and its 60ppm. when others have tap water of 0ppm and don't clean there tanks at all and have 60ppm. NOT FAIR LOL. But atleast my water is free :)
