is this true?

I don't think the even or odd number thing matters much. I started with 6 Red Bellys and now currently have five ( They killed there brother ). Aggression can be calmed by keeping the water temperature lower ( under 78 degrees ) and by keeping them well fed. I have found with mine as they get older they tend to be less and less skittish. Piranha-Fury has tons of Information on all the diffrent types of Piranhas. Advice : If I could do it again I would go for the Caribe, they are more aggressive and they get bigger then the regular Pygos. Good Luck

NATTS rock!!!!Started off 10 dimers in a 100g on August 1st....Today, 6 remain peacefully in a 180....

I would get a 55gal to start off and 10 dime sized P's. Get a nice substrate(doesn't matter what kind) and some long plants(fake or real) so they can feel secure. And as long as the water parameters are good, you should have no problems with them being shy, or not eating in front of you. I get thousands a month and use the same 125gal. every time. Never have i had a casualty yet(knock on wood) due to cannibalism, and they eat evrything under the sun from frozen bloodworms, live feeders, silversides, even flakes and cichlid pellets.

All of the other Pygos take much more work to keep, also they are much much more expensive. You go to a LFS you are looking at $5ea. for red bellys(10 for $35 from me:naughty: )1" ternz will run you about $30ea., 1"cariba $45ea, and 1"Piraya $50ea. Not to mention that all the other pygos are much harder to come by. Ahh... but what do I know, I am a Serrasalmus person myself.:grinno:

as for the even odd number thing looking back i only ever kept odd numbers which was by chance and not intentional.
anyway i never had any problems and i kept all types of pygos together so i dont really think pygos can count.
more the better with as big a tank the better too.
when small they can be canibalistic regardless of how many you have its just their way.
