I got this little guy out of a friends son's 8" bowl it was in with goldfish.. Someone at his school gave it to him in a styraphome cup.
Thinking its an abused GT (just never seen one with so much black down the tail)
Hes been in my tank a few days and looking much better just want to know what it is before i keep or re-home him/her

I think its a Hybrid, something about the face doesn't look 100% Synspillum to me. Its a Synspillum mixed with something.

have no clue what it is but the poor thing looks STARVED, maybe we will be able to tell better when it puts on some weight and fills out better

It's most likely Vieja of some sort, but strangely it looks like some juvenile F1 yellow labridens I used to have before they colored up. I'm guessing synspilum or melanurum, but until it colors up you really won't be able to tell.
