Is utah illegal?

exactly, which in my thoughts would mean they are worried about the spread into the salt lake....
There is no way that stingrays would possibly spread into the great salt lake. The great salt lake is disgusting. It stinks out there. It is essentially 2 lakes. There is an abandoned causeway that separates the north side and the south side. The great salt lake is 5 times the salinity of the ocean. It is far too saline to support any fish. The only thing that lives out there is br
I called Utah Fish and game and they said it applied to all stingrays, (at least that's how they would try and enforce it)
So ALL freshwater stingrays are banned? Including Potamotrygon?!?!

The law was definitely not well-written. It states freshwater rays which would allude towards those being Potamotrygonidae. And, states Dasyatidae which are not freshwater rays, per se, but are predominantly marine tropical and temperate species. Definition: They are found worldwide in tropical to temperate marine waters, and a number of species have also penetrated into fresh water in North America, Africa, Asia, and Australia.

Potamotrygon are not illegal in Utah...DNR tried 2 go after a good friend of mine there. He quickly re checked the laws and corrected who ever called him...asked to speak to a manager to double check and corrected them also. As stated above its very vague and they dont seem very knowledgable themselves about what there enforcing. Sucks to be hassled, id say anywhere there be prepared with the correct info and scientific names to defend urselves.

Holy old thread Batman, Or fishman or .............. whatever lol

Stingrays are legal in Utah as long as they are the normal river rays (Potamotrygon) we usually keep. The law is saying all rays but being specific to the family Dasyatidae. Not the ones we keep. I have spoken to fish and game multiple times, they know me. I talked to the man (Head boss) who is on the board who writes the laws and they are legal and fine to keep. At least for the time being, as they say never know when something might change. I do not sell rays locally as the market is terrible and nobody wants them but a man in Idaho has been bringing motoros down for next to nothing just parting with them and he caused concern for the laws to be looked over. me = dislike of such actions as your putting pressure on the hobby and not in a great way posting tons on local classifieds about it makes people worried and posting so much about you crossing state lines with fish is another worry to them big time. Rays are not a fish for all of the main public to own. So long story short yes they are legal but lets all be responsible owners and careful as things can get messed up so easily.

They wrote the law for the brakish and salt water rays as the great salt lake does have some areas which mix with freshwater and make great living area, we actually have a spot in the dessert geo thermo heated and its like going to the Caribbean, they put sharks and all sorts of tropical salt water fish in it. People can go and swim there with the sharks and other sea life much like in the ocean reefs
