I think your comments regarding color loss/fading from Japanese koi due to them being 'prepared/finished' etc also makes a lot of sense. I think I'd definetly prefer to buy a fish looking in it's natural state, with the view to it keeping those same colors in my pond.
I think my next batch coming to my pond will definetly be Israeli Koi. For someone like me not interested so much in competition level specimens, it seems to make more sense.
