I have noticed quite a lot of newbie questions that get ridiculed. (Case in point: TSN with cory cats.)

I am quite tired of hearing people laugh, or bash, or both, when it comes to these posts.

For one, how the heck are newbies supposed to learn, or even ENJOY the hobby if you guys are putthing him down?

For two, if they did do their research, they would learn that Cory cats have spines to protect them (or did YOU GUYS forget that???) so the answer would in fact NOT be obvious to a newbie. As a newbie, the person would figure that a cory could protect itself with its spines and armor.

THIS is where intellectual members should come in and say "The TSN will still attempt to eat the cory cats, and probably will get injured itself, in the process."

Guys - this behavior towards newbies is... I won't even name it.

I PRAISE newbies for putting their neck out to be chopped, by ASKING questions, which is what they should be doing. Geez

Sorry for venting, but c'mon guys... We're supposed to be good role models here.

didn't read that thread I skipped over it my problem with newbie questions is on other stuff most people don't know how to read directions and most don't want to put any research in

Nic
Agreed, they should read more, but fish don't come with "directions" - Heh... well... the ones at PetCo do... and that's like a death sentence for the fish lol

this is true. All I was trying to get across is that people need to do their research before getting a fish. I hate thoes posts that come all the time saying that I have a TSN and its too big what do I do with it now?

You make a good point Santoury.

I definately agree with you. I see a lot of critisizm from people who didn't know jack a few months ago. I get frustrated sometimes when I see the same topics posted all the time or what may seem like no brainer questions but to a new person even using the search funtion to find better info may be difficult at first.

I'm throwing this out there: distinguishing newbies from trolls is easier said than done.

yeah when I first read it I thought it was someone just trying to get us going... like we are now.

if it was, then they succeeded

You have a good point, and I didn't even notice how many posts the newbie had, 21... until I double-checked - but then again, a newbie (or not) should at least get the benefit of the doubt. If THAT PERSON (NOT US) proves to be a troller, so be it, but after the original question, there are 10 or 15 of these negative posts that aren't needed.
If he was trolling, he didn't even get a chance to! lol

some new members see asking questions here as RESEARCH.
i agree whole heartedly with santoury i think some people tend to forget we all new jack once.

So 24"+TSN vs 2" cory cat? What will happen? (protective spines or not..)(another note they don't exactly go together, one gets huge.. other stays tiny...)

I didn't read the thread though.

IMO I always think MFK is more for the seasoned hobbiest in most ways but I see what you're saying.
