Issues w/ Keeping my Fish Alive....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well thanks for tring to help him out. i know that you guys know alot more than i do. im sure you can send him in the right direction.. My #1 question is... "he just bought a flower ray 3 or 4 days ago should this ray be going into a tank that is so unstable??"

oh.. and i dont mean to argue with anyone, my appologies.. just want to help my friend out and im not sure what to do for him. as it stands right now his flower ray is in my 150g along with my flower that i have had set up for some time now,, very stable in my opinion.. so with all that said what should scott do???

Read here this should help you with the bigger tank crisis. Build your own. That is what im doing. And I think that you DO need a huge tank for your fish but, that doesnt mean you deserved all the flaming you got. I read all the posts and you did say you havent had any of these fish for more than a month correct? Thats not too bad... I would let your friend hold all your fish temporarily, while you let your tanks cycle out. Your friend should know how to do that I hope. Then I would try selling the pacu because that will just be a pain in the rectum because of size. the eljd could stay in the 55, with the parrots for a bit, AFTER ITS CYCLED, the eljd for life BY ITSELF. The ray really needs a big tank. They are also a LOT of work. Same with the Electric Catfish. The knife fish just needs a big tank. They are very hardy fish. Personally I'd bag the cat, ray and pacu, and get a 300 gallon tank and put in some bichirs and some other top dwelling fish. Good Luck!

JIENKINZ.... great advice.. i hope scott is able to make the neccesary changes, im sure he will get on it asap.. as for right now i currently have his flower in my 150g tank with my ray. his baby red belly pacu is also at my house in a quarentine holding tank with his royal knife (died this morning :(...} as for the rest of his stock he still has them in his 55. i could put his parrots and hold them in my parrot tank. so it is up to him which avenue he wishes to take. thanks for the great advice. i think he should setup his new 120 and let it fully cycle and just use that with a small stock list until he is able to get something even larger.

Sorry about the Knife mate....And I think JienKinz is right have him give up the Pacu perhaps get some Red-bellies and then your done(if he likes the look) if not a definate. Have him build a Plywood for the flower and let him get another CK. I can't give advice on Electric Cats as I have no experience with them.

so scott will not ever get rid of the ray.... lol it is like his prize fish. so with that said what direction should he take to keep his ray

The ray is a definite keeper. I spent way too much for him to let it go. He was one of my splurges to make to tank look great. I have no problem upgrading the tank over the weekend but he is my only prize fish left. Any suggestions on what I can do to make it work w/ him in a larger tank?????

He should look for a tank that's at least 150 gallons for the ray, but it must have a wide footprint to give the ray space. The ray will easily grow to 14" or bigger depending on species, so the floor of the tank should ideally be wider than 28" to give him somewhere to go.

Indoor pond could work, too, since rays look great from above.
