Issues with water qaulity

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no, i net out any uneaten food, i added salt to help the rays and did a 25% wc thats 5 in a row now, tested the water no nitrite, 5 ppm nitrate but still a trace of ammonia, is it possible that even after a few months running the tank is still going through the cycleing process?

Its not that its still going through the main cycle process. What you used to cycle your tank to begin with was not enough bioload to compare with the rays you added. Now that your bioload has increase, you do not have enough beneficial bacteria to compete with the ammonia output, thus you have excess ammonia showing right now. Eventually, the bacteria will grow until it can balance out with the amount of ammonia that is available. Basically, you probably sent your tank into a mini cycle.

how manny test kits are you useing matey? just incase one is faulty.

you make sure your water is compleatly treated before adding to the tank? just incase your killing bacteria adding chlorine to the tank.

your down to 2 rays and 1 dat? in the whole tank.

for some reason if test results are true your media isnt working correctly, bacteria can double there amount in 24 hrs so after 2 weeks they should of caught up with the bio load. something is ither knocking them back,or your media inst enough to hold enough bacteria.

you need to add more bio media and make sure your drip plate is working correctly, spreadiong the water across the whole media tower.

Very good advice !!!!

I am using nutrafin test kits and declorinator, i have 2 nitrite tests 1 is a couple of years old but both are reading the same, the water in the drum is left for about 10-15 mins before being pumped into the tank, as for the media i think the flow core is rubbish but it was my only choice as there wasnt supposed to be any k1 for a month or so and i was desperate (50l came in this week, sods law). I think i'm just going to save up and get a 6 by 1.5 by 1.5 built for a sump full of submerged k1 and get a HMA drip then i will never have to worry about lack of filteration or water changes. Looking back a should have doubled my bio load prior to the rays, its all knowlege for the future cheeres for the help lol
