I totally agree with you Jason, bloat is always triggered by some form of stress. I was just thinking that with new fish, especially those that can be prone to bloat, a little preventative maintenance never hurt. So if those new fish arrive carrying S. vortens in their gut, knocking the numbers back to near zero could give one that extra buffer against a bloat outbreak while the fish are acclimatizing to their new surroundings, and possibly a new diet. Just a little added insurance, without utilizing harsher medication.

That is the game plan.

Thanks for all the great reads on bloat. Long winded, but definitely worth it.

They should be arriving tomorrow. Thanks everyone for the knowledge.

Does anyone know what vendors have what lineage of reds withthout me calling around? Right now we have several from dan coa & gage.

Trying to track down some greens as well, but can't get a straight answer.

What's the true size for red's? I've seen 10" using one reference then another said up to 14-16". I'm leaving them in the growout until they get out of the boat danger zone.
I'm setting up my perm tanks in my man cave & debating on giving a pair a 72x24 instead of the 72x18.

Aggression is ridiculous right now at just 1-1.5". Im starting notice shredded fins after just 2 days.

Red's = amacuzac & I believe papa***o if that makes a difference in size.

I've heard that in the wild reds reach 18cm which is 8" but in captivity can get to 25 - 30 cm which is 10 - 12"
