istlanum growth rate?

IME they grow faster than festae. I just bought some again myself and recieved them a couple weeks ago at 1-1.5" they are now 1.5-2" and growing pretty fast. Out of all the batches and ones ive raised from my pair I had one batch get bloat and it was food related. i was feeding frozen brine shrimp. i used to use that stuff all the time with no problems but i either had a bad batch of frozen or the Istlanums dont do well with brine lol... so since then ive never used the stuff again and havent had any problems. But while they are still small I recomend feeding veggie based foods such as veggie flakes, sprulina flakes or pellets, shrimp pellets, crushed or small NLS pellets. occasionally ill feed live blackworms, frozen krill and crushed massivore. once they reach 3.5" mark you should be in the clear on bloat. Ive sold a few to a friend of mine and when i went to get them back they looked really bad, like he had poor water quality, bad tankmates and those ones did bloat on me
but shortly after getting them back. so just keep you water clean and healthy, dont over feed, and keep and eye on them with tank mates. i noticed they do really well when theres a nice group of them wether in a comunity or species tank. but good luck and im sure youll be fine.

Still waiting on them to be delivered, should be here very very soon! They are the red race, ill post pix soon! They might be from the same batch you have if you got them from jeff 
thanks for the info I was a bit worried ab bloat. I've had festae bloat on me and beani and I feel they are closely related

Infact i havent seen his list in a while. how big are the ones your getting? I would quarentine them and feed veggie flakes for a few days and lightly, that will help them pass any parisites and feed them at the same time. just keep them in their own tank for a couple months and have meds on standby if your worried. also keep your tank highly oxygenated, youll be fine bro

I ordered 6 from Jeff in 2009. 1 female killed all the rest within days. Then I purchased a 2.5-3" pair from Ira. They were fry from GMFISHNUTs pair that were brought in from Mexico by JoeFatFish.
This small pair killed 30+ of its fry brothers and sisters and formed a tight bond and I grew them out and had about 10+ spawns from them. Male ended up being around 9" , female 5".
I kept them as the main fish in a 265g with a neet, HRP, convict, pictus and 4 clown loaches. Never had any problems with them that I can think of. Theyd spawn and take 1/3 of the tank but thats about it. Ive had WAY worse trouble from spawning convicts...WAY WORSE.
They were beautiful and interesting, but not very interactive/ owner responsive. They didnt hide a lot, but they werent at the tank front like my current jag or old trimac.
I shipped them to a friend in NJ and within a month the male killed the female.

so were can i order istlatum im thinking if gett ing soem from cichlids of america , which look better the red or green variety
