i just put 4 x 2-5inch IT in a 30x14x14 tank connected to my main 1000g system i was lucky all 4 took pellets from day one so lets see how fast they grow

i have 2 IT in the 1000g i got them both about 1 year ago one will eat pellets the other only prawn the

when i got them they were both 10inch in a year the one that eats pellets is only near 12inch the one that eats pellets is 16inch + so its all about food prawn and other sea foods are crap for growth pellets are the way to go for fast growth

This guy here knows what he's talking about, I really do have to agree that I saw very minimal growth with shrimp/tilapia/other seafood, they are not as calorie dense and hence will not allow for maximum growth potential unless you are constantly always feeding them but that will cost a lot of money. Massivores are the way to go.

question to everyone here, does any of your datnoids bother with surface food??? mine would only exlusively eat sinking pellets but I would love it if I could some how trian them to take floating pellets

Definitely get them on massivore and cichlid gold sinking and mine also eat catfish pellets, pleco wafers whitebait, mealworms prawns etc.

dats do grow slowly but they can manage more than 1" a year if treated PROPERLY meaning fed properly and their water are changed at least once a week or every 2 weeks, my 4"er who got on massivore went from 4 to 8" in just 8 months

I agree with this! I feed mine Massivor and cut up Tilapia Fillet's. I bought 10 IT's two years ago, about the size of a quarter. Of the 9 that are still alive all but 1 is 6". The "runt" is 3".

Edit: Some more info. They grew out in a 180 for a year and the last year they have been in a 360 with a trickle water change system. I think/hope they have optimum "growth" conditions and that's why I'm seeing this kind of growth.

two of my datnoids eat exclusively from the surface which is weird

food sticks and freeze dried shrimp, etc

Most of my brood will take freeze dried krill from the surface.I have not tried any floating pellets or food sticks yet.
