Didn't even have time to remove carbon ran to local pet store got ich medicine and dropped it in there....is salt bath better along with rasing temp ?? And do I need to remove carbon with salt treatment ?

You don't need to remove carbon when you're only adding salt. And yes I have heard that salt and higher temps will cure ich in time, most times.

no need for carbon in a filter IMHO,fill the space with more media or sponge, crank up the heat and go to work, salt if you like, 87 to 92 is fine. ICK not real hard to get rid of. leave the heat up for 3 weeks, or 2 weeks after you no longer see on the fish.

If you mean by a bath ( a dip in saline water). A quick dip won't make a dent, because there re Ick cysts all over your tank, in the gravel, in filters etc etc/. You will need to treat the tank for a few weeks, to get the dormant cysts. When dormant, and on the fish, they are immune to treatment, it is only when they hatch out are their cell walls are vulnerable to the treatment. This can take weeks depending on temp and how fast they hatch out.

by heating up the tank, you are speeding up the life cycle faster than ICK can survive in, they burn out per say, folks add salt because it is a iritent(sp) to the fishes skin and they create a heaver slime coat.

I also hear it will kill them in the vulnerable stage but have no literature that i have read to back that up.

Thanks for all the advice. Due to my work hours not catching it on time I have lost fish ...working on saving the 3 remaining which happen to be my favorite. It's just so advanced ...

Much of the time, Ick is about quarantining new arrivals. Usually I quarantine all new fish for 3 months, but the last time I didn't, this is what happened. I didn't notice right way because this tank was only 1 of 20 (total 1500 gallons of tanks)
1st day treated with both salt, and Nox-Ich, I could not raise temp, because volume of tank and sump was over 300 gallons

2nd day of treatment

3rd day

4th (getting better)

5th

6th

I continued high saline level for another 2 weeks.
