I just lost my Beutikoferi (sp) poly this past weekend. I came out to feed my wet pets and found it totally lifeless and hard as a rock. i tried to do the same as you did, but the little guy didn't make it. I have since installed a substantial lid on that tank. I also found some plexiglass for my other tanks, as all have the potential of escape...

What exactly are people referring to with better lids? My 65 has regular glass canopies and I had eggcrate covering the 2 inches or so between the canopy & the back of the tank.

The 55 they're going into has a regular full plastic hood...is there some better option?

IDK, I thought my lids was good, its one of them all glass tops, I think its called a Versa top, but he lifted it up, I really dont know how he did it, its not light, the edge was slightly lifted by the heater cord, but its still has some weight, and i dont know how a 5" bichir lifted it. But like I said I replace the heater with a submersible one and last night I sat a small bag of sand on it to be double safe.

I had my Endli jump out in the middle of the night too, I covered it up and the next night she jumped clean out (I got her both times) I did a WC and she stopped jumping...In other words do a WC alot of the times they try to find better water that's when they jump
