beautiful, i see the similarities with an acara but they can't hybrid with other cichlids that arent also acaras so that is out of the question.

to me? well it looks like a texas, and thats what it is. it has no similarities what so ever to a jack dempsy. at least non that a regular texas does not.

It looks like a cross between the two texas species,. its face is alot like a carpintis, but the body is more tyhe colour and sparkles of a cyanoguttatus. who knows maybe its just a dull carpintis that has yet to see his beautiful adult colour.

all i know is its a great looking fish and definately a texas.

if we are going to just shout out random cichlid names to match it with we might aswell call it half severum because it has red eyes....

ps, most texas you see in LFS are hybrids between the two species unless specified which one it is, from the better reputed dealers

Thanks for your input, It could be a cross between a green texas and blue texas..

But thanks again for you input! Will have updated pics along the way
