This is getting a little aggravating, he is actually more shy now than he has ever been. I have removed some of the hiding spots, that didn't help. I've added a couple of females (in dividers) to the tank and that didn't even get his attention. All he does is hide under his rock all the time. He won't even eat in front of me any more.

This is getting pretty old. It's great having a 210 gallon tank and just being able to look at a fish under a rock all the time. :irked:

He is certainly beautiful when I can sneak up on him to get a picture but the rest of the time I just get to look at a tank with some rocks in it. At least the two females aren't shy I guess. :(

Was anyone else's dovii shy this long?

You might have made it worse by removing hiding spots. Sometimes having more places to hide can make a fish more outgoing because he feels more secure since there are hiding spots if he needs them. I can't speak from personal experience with dovii since I've never kept one, but this has been my experience with fish in general.

Normally I would agree and would have probably posted your exact post if someone else would have asked this question. However it was impossible to make it any worse. When all he does is hide all day how much worse can it get? ;)

nice dovii dude, i also had the same problem with mine till he got around a ft i tried to take stuff out put stuff in seemed like nothing worked i had him in my liven room now he is in the tank in the kitchen and man hes out like crazy i hoppen that with in a few babies ill have my 1st spawn .....seen the biggest change in him once the female got to b around 4-5 inches andlike i said man hes is all over the tank now i mad a rock pile in the middle of the tank where he HIDES behide at times i also noticed to i left the lights off for a long while , like u i hated seeing a empty tank then added the female still no lights ( like a month or so) idk what to tell u everyone of these guys is way differnt but maybe something i have done will help u in ur mission GOOD LUCK MAN

What happens when you are gone and come home? Is he out and then runs and hides? Also how big is he now...I feel the pain man, I couldnt imagine having a tank so nice and big with such a nice looking fish...ha that hides.

Most of the time I look in there he is hiding under his rock. My 300 and 210 are both located in my dining room which gets very little traffic. The only reason I really go in the room is to watch the fish and to feed them. We generally eat in the kitchen or the living room, I believe we have eaten in our dining room two or three times in the two years we have owned the home.

He is about ten inches so he still has a lot of growing to do.

I havent had this problem with Dovii but I did with my RTMs so I took out every place they could hide behind/under for about 6 months and when I decided to add more fish, I put the fish and driftwood/rocks back in and they were a lot better.

If he always has his tail kinda closed and it is never all the way spread open that means his confidence is shot. Its like the same thing if a pitball is bitten at a young age for some reason they really get their comfidence right. Good luck, I had a RT that was like that, so i shipped it out of here. I need fish that when I walk in, it comes running up to the tank. That makes me a proud parent!!

i know it sounds stupid maybe be in that room more often so he sees u more maybe just scared cause holy **** here comes a big thing after me , then u leave u know
