The fishroom will soon be back in buisness. Here's what was done:
Water seal on foundatin brick walls.
Insulation
Drywall
Mud/sanding/painting of front window frame. PVC idea scrapped due to unecessary cost
pits/cracks/holes in walls fixed
Existing baseboard repainted . PVC baseboard returned due to size being too small. Got primed wood replacement pieces. All baseboards sealed with caulk.
Walls sanded/painted. Color matched from chip
It was a 2 day job, Thur-Fri
Insulated curtains will be going up today!
Now moving forward. I wanted to price two acrylic breeder size tanks but it would be around 1K. Getting a cart (for moving tanks) and glass breeders would be around 400 ish. But would still need someone to pick up the 38 glass tanks so that might bring the total cost back to the beginning. Donation for tanks is dicey. Bulk pickup might destroy perfectly good tanks. Just no getting around costs in my region. Its also tough getting a standard acrylic tank with a 18 inch base. The 38s are really narrow for the parrots they have barely enough horizontal room at their size. The metal stands would support up 55 gallon standard tanks with no issue. The stand for the cube tank is now in my office to be painted at quiet time. I'm also keeping Kong's old stand as a storage table since it has a bottom shelf.
It was a friday the 13th kind of day yesterday (even though it wasn't) here's what happened:
1. Team shows up late for second day in a row. They sat in the truck for another 20 minutes before I had enough and called them to get started.
2. Tech ran a Dewaltt cutter machine that pulled so much power it made the living room and dining rooms flicker and blink. Everything was turned off including the tv and lights in those areas. He ran a large blower downstairs at the same time.
3. Tech had to go get replacement wood baseboards because he mistakenly got 4 inch pvc and I needed 6 inch, which pvc doesn't come in.
4. Tech comes back because he forgot to take paint sample chip with him.
5. The paint Home Depot was supposed to have mixed to turquoise wasn't mixed at all. I had 2 gallons of Glidden white base paint. Another trip for the tech.
6. Tech gets to Home Depot and their paint mixer is broken. Plan B was to get the paint mixed at Sherman Williams in Oxon Hill MD.
I was so pissed about the paint I told the tech just paint the frickin room white. He said he had enough paint but it would take 4-5 coats to cover the original cover. He would have charged 1200 for ONE extra coat. I asked him if I looked like a fool? And a room that size? I was ready to have one coat of white and let someone do the rest but we came up with plan B. The guy does flawless work but there's some level of bull++++ that comes with it. He and his wife are a team (she's actually the one who hauls equipment). Then I got the "I've been doing this for 20 years" bit. I told him I wasn't some dumb ass owner that hasn't done anything. He told me that 4 times so I said back "You've been doing it for 80 years. 20 times four."
Anyway the room looks fantastic and brand new. There's no rush on the smaller tank situation. On to the unsexy pictures. In the first pic you see Boss peeking out of his log.
