It's Done!

Good for you he definitely would have tried to rip you off.
He does excellent work but what's annoying is that he's so thorough he doesn't tell you everything he's going to do so there's a surprise. Like when he and his wife did the outside work around the fishroom with the trench and sealing the foundation. He didn't say he had to extend the trench around the house for drainage so I ended up having my landscaper put down sod.

When they did the kitchen downstairs they did a great job with no issues. He smiles all the time. But I was hollering at him in front of his wife.

Wow, you are a patient and understanding woman. How else could you possibly continue to call this glorified handyman a "tech"?

20 years experience...and he still apparently can't operate complicated equipment like a measuring tape...and forgets the paint chip...and wants $1200 to put a coat of paint on a small room.

Personally, the first time he had used that "doing this for 20 years line" I would have asked him why all that experience didn't equate to doing it right the first time.
Trust me, I got pretty ugly when he quoted 1200 for one coat of paint and smiled. It was so damn stupid to think I'd pay that.

Forget the decor. Uncover the fish tanks.

I don't follow. The curtains going up are insulated/thermal to keep temps even in the room from both heat and cold. The front wall faces south. The tank covers were to protect from the wall sanding/paint dust. I have deep set windows near the soil line downstairs.

The front window is much larger than it appears in the picture. It's 60 x 67. Unfortunately I have huge pane windows most everywhere. When the house was renovated by 2 brothers the designer brother fell in love with the idea of giant windows so they enlarged the basement windows. Windows in the living room/dining room are far bigger so they are covered with insulated curtains 2 layers as well. Some of those are original. I guess people didn't have utility bills back in the day.

the biggest window over the porch is like 130 x 68. that one is original.
