hey all, so i have a 29 gallon tank with a rena xp2 canister for filtration. live plants and a t-5 HO light unit. water parameters are as follows: ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm, nitrate 10ppm. my water is now cloudy and i have no idea what it would be. i thought maybe a bacteria bloom, but that would indicate high nitrate, wouldnt it?? i have no dead fish and im not sure what would cause this. i do 10 percent water changes twice a week, and every month i do a surface gravel siphon. im confused because i have weak filtration on my 55 gallon and like 10 12" fish in there, and i never have quality issues. any suggestions on this would be much appreciated. thanks in advance

Have you verified your test kit?

How long has the tank been up?

What's in it (fish)?

Have you changed the filter media lately?

Inquiring minds :D .

Dr Joe

the media is as follows: bio-chem zorb, 2 20ppi and 30ppi pads, micro filter pad and bio stars. everything is like 2 weeks old except the bio stars which ive had for like 3 months. i have some skirt tetras and keyhole cichlids, cardinal tetras and a rainbow shark, with a chinese algae eater. co2 injected for plants and an air stone at night! the tank itself has been up for 2 years

Sounds like it cycled again, is the co2 set-up new to the tank? Try cutting it off for 3 days and recheck chemistry. Cloudiness could be a bloom.

yeah the co2 is sroda new, like 2 months. but i would imagine that if it were to cycle it would have cycled a while ago, but ill try that and see what happens. thanks Dr Joe!!

ok so, my cats been getting into the tank a little bit. would the cat litter from his paws cause the water to cloud up. i got a thick foam filter and im gunna run the water through that for a bit, would this be a cause, and would the filter be a solution, aside from covering the tank with something heavier?

wait does this concern ur 55 or 29? and how could u have 10 12" fish ina 55. they wood barely fit and that would be your problem right there if ur 55 is cloudy.

no no no, its the 29 gallon. im well aware that the 55 is not in that great of shape right now, and desperatly needs changing. majority of those fish are going to a friends house, so no fears their lol.
