So it's time for me to start cutting down the stock in my 125 gallon lyonsi tank. The aggression is just becoming too much from the biggest 2 individuals. The question is how. Sadly none have paired off just yet so I don't know who to keep and who to rehome. Any recommendations? I have had a suggestion to "force" a pair by dividing off the biggest male but I'm unsure if this will work.

What size are they now
Biggest ones are pushing 6-7", smallest ones are 2.5-3" (pretty even split. 2 big ones, 2 small ones and 3 in the middle which are really getting the hardest time)

I would try getting rid of all the males bar one, to start with and keep all the females

I should mention the other problem is I'm not 100% sure on sexes. I assume the 2 biggest are male and 2 smallest are female, but I don't know about the middle 3.

I'd say it's pretty simple, divide the tank in half. Cut wholes in the divider so that only the small ones can get through, they will be able to interact with every fish in the tank but the big ones stay separated. That will allow you to still hopefully get a pair and once you do, get rid of the rest. If your trying to get a pair and your not 100% sure on sex I would try to keep as many as posssible to increase ur chances of pairing off.

Black blotch on the dorsal. Not a sure way but can give you a start.

Lets see the whole tank setup.

Blotching how? Means what?
I kinda like the idea of down the middle and put one big boy on each side... we'll try and see if that works.
And here's alittle older pic but the set up is still the same. Alittle cloudy as I had just moved a bunch of stuff around and done water changes.
