wow! those are amazing. I saw one at an LFS in santa monica and will never forget how cool they look. Oh, and yeah, you'll be needing a bigger tank FYI (but i'm sure you already knew) actually, you'll probably need a pond. But anyways awesome fish!
I never really gave any thought to try bow fishing for them but will have to give that a try.
I used to snag them at a place a few miles from my house but the DNR banned snagging there a couple years ago, and I basically haven't tried for them since... but with that bow fishing idea I may give that a try .
Thanks for the comments everyone, these fish are runts culled out of the raceways of a breeder I know. He has been culling these fish out for size for 5 years now and so far these runts are staying well below the maximum adult size. In five years all the culled runts have stayed below or around 16" (including the snout) These fish eat well but require a good established bio filter to live due to their messiness.
So far i have fed them floating pellets and live Daphnia magna, they've also eaten a few live blood worms and mosquito larvae. They are not beating their snouts against the sides of the tank but they do swim all the time.
I've only had them 5 days so i am still in the learning curve of keeping these fish. It will be interesting to see how big they get as well as how well they adapt to living in a tank as time goes on. so far they have been deceptively easy to keep
they are cold water aren't they? so isn't 72 to hot? and even if they do only gorw to 18" they are going to need a tank twice that or more, they are constant swimming fish, so they need room to swim. they will need a pond bro.
