So, I recently put my 6 Inch Jag male into a 55 gal. tank. I made a nice cave out of rocks for him. I wanted to get him a lady friend so I was given a Jack Dempsey Female a little smaller than him prolly 3.5-4 inches. They seem to get along great and I am in plans of locating a 125 gallon for their final home. I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything they know about successfully mating these two. I'm pretty sure the Jack is a female because she has rounded anal fins and blue splotches on her cheeks with a red tipped fin. The rest of her goes kinda dark but usually stays kinda light for the most part. I dont have a camera yet so its hard for me to post pics. any advice or comments would be great.

good luck.please post your progress with breeding them.

why do you want to try and intentionally create a hybrid?

Wasnt so much intentional as it was waking up one day and pondering the question. they seem to get along fine he chases her from time to time when I feed him fresh fish from time to time but their "lazy" areas where they chill are right next to eachother.

i was actually thinking of this too a little while back. made any progress?

Please don't make/spread random hybrids...

I'm not sure if it's possible for these two species to hybridize. Hybrid pairs are usually harder to form and don't bond as well, which means you will have less issues to deal with if you simply got a female Jag. The Jag offspring will also hold some value for resale where selling the hybrids will do the hobby more harm than the income will do you good.
