jack dempsey 55 G tank

thx, i do have a female jack demsey but they dont get along very well, she is only 2" and he is about 3.5" so i quess thats y but he lovesthe pleco even if the pleco doesnt like it when hes around him.

but does anyone have any ideas has how i can get the male JD to be nice to the female

and also i liked the stand also took about a week to build, still havnt got the nobs painted yet but it adds about 150 pounds of weight to the floor and considering that i havea basment i had to beef up the beam down there
 
and ill be posting more pics within the week as soon as i can get some rocks for decor, if i can find any that i like, lol

You could always add the female to the tank first and let her set up some territory before adding the male. This would be your best chance at them getting along, or at least having the male tolerating her. Make sure you have plenty of hiding places too.
 
If the male is mature and ready to spawn... and the female isn't... there isn't much you can do to convince the male not to harrass her...

But give it a month or two and once the female is mature... he will have a very important reason to be a little nicer to her ;)
 
i was thinking of putting her in first but im still wondering if she is a she, i took a look at her/him at the petstore and i was mostly looking at the fins to see if there was any demseys in there that had a more ronder fin than the other quessing that would be the female at least thats what i was took and i was reading on the internet, i can post a pick if she/he ever comes out
 
dempseys are hard at that size look at the very tip of the fin ir it rounder or taller follow all the way back is it pointed and finaly the gill spangle more of less of the fish in question
 
hmm well i i can tell the bigger JD is a male cuz his back fins are very long and pointed but the other one is harder to tell and does the male have more sparkles than the female or the other way around and the small JD looks to have a rounder tail but the spakles on the gills r about the same but i would say the small one has about 3 to 4 more on the gills but thats a quess
 
ok well sry everyone for not putting up more pics like i said i would do but so many things coming up and havnt had anytime to get the decor rocks for the tank but im hoping on monday i can make a trip to the water garden center and pic some decor rocks up and if i do ill be posting pics up.

sry for the wait haha but this hobby is like that, so get used to it lol
 
ok i have some new pics, ill be saying a few things on the pics and i also got some new fish for the 55 gallon tank also i now have 5 fish, one 8 inch pleco, 2 jack dempsey's, 1 parrot fish, and one that i need help on ill post a pic its the small gray fish if you know what he is plz reply thx, and sry about quality in the pics i have to take them all on my cell phone, its all i got,

these are the rocks i got they where $ .50 a pound i got 50 pounds as you can see not that much all rocks are about a pound im thinking of getting some more in the future.

ok the pic above shows how i tryed to make some caves, im not much for underwater decorating but i try and im wondering my parents keep asking me it that tank goin to support all the weight and it got me thinking so does any buddy know how much weight tanks can support the top of the stand is open at all the weight is kinda hanging there, plz reply on that thx

ok the shot above is a long view of the tank to show what i mean about the caves and iknow there not all big caves the is room in the back for fish to swim back there and there are caves in the back that you cant see from the front.

ok the fish above is the one that im not sure on the name or what kind of chiclid it is, if any ideas as to what its name is and if its central american or african plz reply im thinking its central

ok the pic above is my new parrot fish i got it at wlmart only one they had left so i was like well i like the color and maybe this will help with my jack dempsey's attitude but if not he will have a nice 20 gallon to go to until i get some money to put up another 55 or maybe even bigger in this hobby size is everthing and as a guy i must say we all try to go big and go hard, lol

o ya before i forget to ask is it ok to put live plants in your tank from another tank im thinking it would be fine but i would like to know from some pros or ppl that just know, lol ok well i have one more pic and all the pics with the fish are the 20 gallon all those fish will be goin into the 55 in 3 to 4 weeks and im thinking more plants what do you guys and girls think

ok the pic above is another plant i got from walmart they where like 5 bucks each and they looked healthy so said ok ill get them, lol and the tank really needs them
