My boyfriend's JD, still only 2.5", was fine with his oscar, but just last week he snapped and beat the crap out of him for no apparent reason. The oscar is okay now and residing with my cowardly flowerhorn.

i have a 9 incher who used to be tank boss , pretty tough , with convict , gt , carpintis , pike , and sd's . now that the pike has outgrown him , he's a wuss ... barely comes out of his cave . won't even come to the surface for pellets anymore . i have to drop sinkers in for him .

how the f&8k do you kill a rock last time i checked you cant kill something thats not alive...:screwy: just saying.

JDs are big babys :D

Mine tore up everything and destroyed my entire tank.

On a serious note, I've had several, and they weren't aggressive. I think it just comes down to personality of each fish. Not all of them are going to be super aggressive, just like not all will be mellow.

I agree with the statement a lot of agressiveness has been bred out of them. My first big cichlid was a 10 inch male jack denpsey and he would not let anything in his tank. This was in 1978. I had one a few years ago that was a pussy cat compared to the ones available in the seventies. I don't know could be coinsedense.

They are fairly aggresive.

my jack is VERY chill. he just attempts to pick on my clown knife occasionally, which never works out because the clown knifes bigger and faster, but all in all hes probably my most relaxed fish

My 8" male jack is a beast, has killed and beat up fish that were bigger than him (jag and RD) He rips apart Pleco's, and I think he may be *** (wanted to kill every female I introduced). But he acts like a puppy to me getting excited when he see's me, even appears to start wagging his tail fast, will eat food right out of my hand, and even spits rocks at the sides to get my attention when hungry (nobody ever believes me on this, until they see it). But I have 2 female that live peacefully in a "community" oddball/cichlid tank.

Edit: Apparently G-A-Y is a curse word on here (***), which I find more offensive than the word itself, not that I'm ***...I'm not, I swear.

Depends on the individual fish. It all comes down to personality. I've had down right nasty ones and ones that were not aggressive at all.
