2 red terrors, 1 jd and one bp in a 55 gallon tank. In 3-4 months you will have one red terror and 3 dead fish, and in about one year you will have one stunted red terror, You really should read up on cichlids.

I agree with the above . . . your 55G tank is a disaster waiting to happen

I recommend you take back the RTs - - tell the store you made a mistake - - and maybe even lose the BP . . . let your JD share the tank with a couple of smaller cichlids, maybe a firemouth or salvini cichlid . . . or a few Rainbows . . .

I'm thinking about taking the BP back the red terrors are way to small to even mess with the JD. I'm only going to have this set up for another 7 months before I have to take it all down cuz ill be off to college then. I wish I could take all the fish with me but you can only have a 10 gal tank in the dorms.

Decided to clean my room tonight and make room for the 20 gal that's down in the basement. I plan on putting the two RTs in here. That gonna be a better set up?

a 20 to raise 2 red terror growouts is ok if they are tiny...for a short time....most likly you have 2 mayans though rather than red terrors. you will know when the 20 isnt big enough as 1 will kill the other soon enough, not trying to be a smart azz here but telling the truth. the fish you have are not good for the size tanks you have.

I don't get it; what happens to these fish when you go to college?

The terrors and JD are going back to the pet store, my raphael catfish im going to give to my ap bio teacher, and my BP to my girlfriend. My mom wont take care of the fish.

It seems like you are going through a lot of unnecessary trouble for nothing. By the time your fish attain decent sizes and colors, you'll be taking down the tank and giving away the fish. Why don't you just get smaller fish that you can take to college. Maybe a couple of dwarf cichlids or a few barbs?

Agreed, way to much impulse buying. I seriously suggest you take them back and stick weith sometyhing like convicts or jewel cichlids if you can only have a 20g in your room. However, thats still small for them when they reach maturity. I am thinking a smaller, more peaceful cichlid is what you need.
