i have 4 oscars and 1 jack dempsey in my 125 i never see the jack becouse he is always hiding. the oscars dont mess with him, but he just stays in the cave. they are all between 4 and 6 inches long. he never eats the feeder fish either. is this normal?

a dempseys favorite food isn't fish, it's shrimp, plus he's alone, and the oscars really outnumber hi m, he problably doesn't feel comfortable in there.

I have a JD with an Oscar and some other fish. I never see the JD eat  But he's the second largest fish in the tank next to the Oscar, so I'm assuming he's eating something, somewhere.

well do you put pellets in there?

Yeah...I use pellets. The JD goes through starts twitching when the pellets are in, but he doesn't seem to be in pain or anything. But even with feeders, he does go after them.

do you think that he might be eating the feeders or pellets when it is dark or if you are not watching? some dempseys are shy, he might gtrow some balls if you get him a female if it is a male or if it is a female(geta male)

good advice... my male and female never leave each others side when they feed they come out together and seem to find strength in each other

One thing...I have an adult blue depmsey, he eats shrimps, but his all time favorite food, for his whole life, is spirulina floating sticks. Try the spirulina, never know he might enjoy it as much as my big guy...
