Jack Dempsey- Bad bloat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Are you keeping him in the amount of water shown in these pictures, with part of his body out of the water? Or did you drop the water just to take the pics? If it's the former, then give him some more water. Are you using prime or some other product to prevent ammonia toxicosis? With a relatively large fish in such a small volume of water, I would be measuring the ammonia in the water daily to make sure there is 0 ammonia always.
You could still attempt aggressive antibacterial treatment using Kanaplex, and either a protein-binding antiseptic like SeaChem Stress Guard or a topic treatment like biobandage.

Just pitched him with a hammer, tryed stunning/suffocating him with baking soda first but the min he started flailing I had to end it quick.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, I would have given you a couple of options before putting it down. Sorry bud.

Most of the time once they get that far along its too late. Most of their internal organs have failed and they are suffering horribly. It might be hard to decapitate a beloved fish, but it is generally the fastest and most sure way to end it. A poorly aimed hammer blow could only cause more suffering. Use the clove oil to put them out, then decapitate.

Thanks for the help/info posting on this site was a last resort for me, I needed someone knowlegable about this sort of thing to tell me his chances were slim (a part of me still thinks he could have possibly made it) he was a fighter for sure! It was very hard to make the first blow but at least I know he died within a minuet.
